Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a Reservation?
We are a walk-in studio. While we are no longer taking small reservations, we do accept (and recommend) reservations for groups of 4 or more. We found this system works best for our set up. There are also times throughout the year when the studio is rented out for private parties, and, therefore, the studio will be "closed" to the public. We recommend that you always call or email us to check on availability. Reservations are called and confirmed.
GROUPS 12 or MORE: We now require a $25 reservation fee for all groups of 12 people or more. Your reservation will guarantee table space for your group, and we will package and wrap your pieces for individual or group pick-up.
Valentine's Day Exception: For this day we will take reservations of two!
Groups of 4 or more and/or parties that come in during the week should make a reservation in order to guarantee table space. We are very accomodating throughout the year for your events.
How does it work?
We are a paint-your-own-pottery studio also offering fused glass (Cleveland Park only) mosaics and acrylic painting. You select the project you would like to do, and we will set you up with the appropriate materials. A staff person will explain the process and answer any questions. After you finish your project, you leave the piece(s) on the table. We have a worksheet that gets filled out, and then you pay before leaving. The worksheet has your pick up date so you know exactly when to come pick up your masterpiece. Pottery and mosaic pieces are ready in one week but for glass fusion projects we call when they are ready (Firing time varies.). If you can't finish in one visit, we will package up your piece for you to take with you. We don't hold any unfinished pieces in the studio.
Please note that we hold items for 30 day from the pick up date. If you cannot make it into the studio within that time frame, please call or email us and we can arrange to keep your pieces longer.
If you are grouting your mosaic piece yourself, then we will package everything, and you leave the studio with the project and grout kit. The staff will provide you with thorough instructions.
What should I bring?
We provide everything you need including a fun, creative, and relaxing atmosphere. We have a great design center which includes stencils, stamps, sponges, and design ideas. All of the paint washes out of clothing so there's no need for smocks. We have a gigantic chalk board which kids can color on if they finish painting first.
How long does it take to paint?
The average person spends about an hour and a half painting. With young children it depends on their attention span. However, there is no time limit; you are welcome to take as long as you need. You can even take it home and come back another day to finish your piece.
How long till I can pick my pottery up?
Our studios run on a 7 day schedule. For example: if you paint Monday, your pieces will be ready for pickup next Monday morning. Please note: due to our amount of business during the holiday seasons our schedule can change. This usually occurs around Dec. 1 and a few weeks before Mother's day. Be sure to allow plenty of time if you plan on making a gift. We will keep your piece for 30 days from your scheduled pick up date.
What does it cost?
The price of a pottery piece ranges from $6.00 to $60.00. For example, mugs are $19.00 to $22.00, plates range from $16.00 to $25.00. Mosaic pieces run from $25.00 to $60.00. All Fired Up prices are all inclusive. All of our pottery is labeled with the price. There are no extra fees. The paint, glaze and studio time are free!
Is my child old enough?
All ages are welcome in our studios. Putting children's hand prints on pottery is always popular for the younger ages. We also have small animal figurines and cute little boxes, kids love to paint.
Are the dishes food safe?
All of our paint and glazes are lead free and nontoxic. After the pieces have been fired they are totally safe to use and eat from.
Are the dishes microwave and dishwasher safe?
The glaze on ceramic tends to crack when it is heated and cooled too quickly. This is called crazing. To avoid this process we recommend you do not put your pottery in a microwave or dishwasher.
Can I bring food and drinks?
Yes, you can bring any outside food you wish
Cleveland Park: You are allowed to bring alcoholic beverages anytime. You are not permitted to leave the store with it open....so finish up that bottle before you leave!
Bethesda: At this time we don't allow alcoholic beverages ; ( We are working on changing this policy!

I've never done this before, will somebody help me?
